I have had a keen interest in backyard birds since childhood. I am happy to see them constantly in my yard with food. Among the backyard birds, hummingbirds bring me the most joy.
I find it much more cost-effective to make food for hummingbirds than to buy feed from the market. That’s why I use my experience to prepare food for hummingbirds and attract them to my backyard. From my practical experience, I know how to prepare food to keep them interested, and I also have practical knowledge of how and when to put food in the bird feeder.
If you want to see hummingbirds in your outdoor space like me, you can follow my recipe to make homemade food. I will describe how I make food for hummingbirds. It should be remembered that hummingbirds love the nectar of flowers, so the food must have the flavor of nectar for them.
Hummingbirds create happy moments not only for me but also for every member of my family, especially my little ones.
I am sure the kids in your house will also be excited to see hummingbirds. Today, I will describe the easiest recipe for hummingbird feed preparation.
Let’s start by knowing what ingredients we need to make the feed.
Purified sugar, mostly known as granulated sugar, is the main ingredient for making feed for tiny hummingbirds. Another ingredient is filtered water. I also emphasize an ingredient for making nectar flavor—honey, in small amounts.
How I Make Hummingbird Food
First, I take 1 part granulated sugar and 4 parts water in a cooking vessel. Then, I heat the water to boil. When the water is hot, I turn off the heat and mix the measured granulated sugar with the water. I keep stirring with a stirrer until the sugar is completely dissolved. Then, I wait until the mixture is completely cool.
When this mixture has cooled to room temperature, it is ready to be added to the backyard hummingbird feeder. Every time I add this mixture to the feeder, I add two drops of honey, the scent of which attracts hummingbirds to my backyard.
I never use red dye in this mixture to attract them.
